There are a couple of odds on shots running at Kempton on Saturday in Charli Parcs and Frodon but my NAP of the card runs in the fourth race on the card. Capitane has only ever finished in the top two in his career. He is favourite for the Sky Bet Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle and it’s easy to see why. With a Grade 2 win to his name, this horse is a distance and going winner and is on the same mark after being beaten by Finan’s Oscar in a Grade 1 last time out. The slight uncertainly is the ground. He has only run on Good ground once in his career, in a two runner race in which he was 1/9 favourite. This win might not tell us much but I feel there is value in the 11/4 currently around at the moment. Elgin is the main danger but I can’t look past Capitane.
15:00 Kempton (3 Places) – Capitane
Capitane is a long enough price for me to include in my each-way double for today, bearing in mind the price of the second horse in the double.
15:35 Kempton (3 Places) – Irish Saint
I’m hoping that Sam Twiston-Davies will chalk up a quick-fire double at Kempton on Saturday. He also has Frodon running on the card. I really like the look of Irish Saint and it will help that he has won each time he has run at Kempton (from 3 runs). He still placed last time out despite making a big mistake a couple of furlongs out. That was unlike him as he’s usually a sound jumper, having fallen just once in 20 career starts. There are questions marks over his stamina but the Good ground should help and the last time he ran on Good ground, he placed in a Grade 1 Chase. Trainer Paul Nicholls and jockey Sam Twiston-Davies have the third most winners of any trainer and jockey combination for jumps racing and are the combination for both of these picks.
