15:00 York – Cardsharp (BEST ODDS 6/1 with Paddy Power)
Cardsharp looks the value bet in this race to me, and I’m surprised that he’s not favourite at the time of writing. He has an excuse for being a beaten favourite last time out, because the ground was far too soft for him. He’s won three of his seven career starts to date. Cardsharp is also proven over six furlongs as well as on good ground. Look at those horses shorter in the betting, Headway struggled in a Group 2 last time out. Nebo finished just ahead of Cardsharp in that race on soft ground, but is unproven on good ground. I’ve no doubt that the faster ground around York will help him this time out. He’s at a decent enough price to be a good each-way bet, or even part of an each-way double. He looks the classiest horse in the race and is the only horse in the field proven at this level.
