Royal Ascot Tips 2017 – Day One

14:30 Ascot – Ribchester (BEST ODDS 1/1 with Betfair)

Ribchester could prove even better on faster ground than he has been so far, and he has been very impressive. If you’re looking for a bigger price, I fancy Deauville to go close but I can’t look beyond one of the bankers of the week.

15:05 Ascot – Denaar (BEST ODDS 9/1 with Paddy Power)

Denaar’s yard has a good record in this race and having a top class jockey on board in Frankie Dettori will only help matters. The ground is a bit of an unknown but this is definitely one for an each-way double at a bigger price. Paddy Power are playing four places.

15:40 Ascot – Lady Aurelia (BEST ODDS 10/3 with Sky Bet)

I fancy Dettori to have a good first day at this year’s Royal Ascot meeting and this horse looks to be well supported. It’s easy to see why: she looked fantastic in the Queen Mary and the allowances made for fillies and age will help her here. Sky Bet are playing a massive five places here.

16:20 Ascot – Churchill (BEST ODDS 4/6 with Sky Bet)

Churchill will be a feature of many punters’ week long accumulators and he is definitely the banker of the week for me. He is quite short in price but he’s won seven in a row, earning almost a million in prize money on the way. His jockey has been the top jockey at Ascot in six of the last seven years. He’s festival NAP material.

17:00 Ascot – Yorkidding (BEST ODDS 16/1 with Sky Bet)

I mentioned an each-way double earlier and this is a prime candidate if you’re putting one on. She’s a big price and has been very consistent for her yard. She’s up another pound in the weights but she stays well and loves fast ground.

17:35 Ascot – Elizabeth Darcy (BEST ODDS 13/2 with Paddy Power)

Elizabeth Darcy is proven at this trip, even just after one run. There’s not much form to be found for this race but the trainer of this horse has won this twice since 2009. They’re specialists in 5f races and especially with two-year-old horses in them; should go very close. Paddy Power are paying five places in this one.

All prices correct at the time of posting.
